We have recently began using picasa, i was wondering if anybody knows if the tags that i create for each individual photo are written to the actual metadata of the jpeg file itself? or are they saved in a seperate database of picasa?

 

Just for backup purposes.

A quick check with a hex editor shows that the tags are written to the jpg file.

 

This is reasonable; changing tags is not really destructive whereas some of the edits you can make could really mess up the photo so having a kind of "edit list" in an .ini file is a good idea.
