Standalone laptop restricted access

Hi guys and girls.

 

I want to setup a few laptops for students, they just need to access wordpad/notepad. They are not connected to the domain. They're just standalone XP builds.

 

I used the local computer policy, that affects the administrator account access too.

 

With AD you can just use the gpo with say that user group, or change the permissions on who can read the gpo etc, but with the local security policy I can't see a way do it and I'm sure I'm missing something.

 

So what am I missing, or just use Steadystate, which I got to work?

not sure what your trying to achieve? just machines with only notepad and wordpad? you could do that by chopping out all the program options from default users, all users etcetc.

Use steadystate, it allows you to lock the machine down in the same way as you would on a network, and you can customise the start menu and desktop by editing the user profile folders. I used it on a couple of machines we had for video editing that I didn't want to be on the network, worked a treat!
