I have a summer project to accomplish like you can read in the title.

In the target off take off the load of printing jobs from our CC3 servers It came the idea of a print server. Obviously a cheap (free) version of that kind of hardware is preferable.

Ubuntu server would be great. I'm a newby in Linux environment so I have few questions :

-Is anyone here already did something similar ?

-Is it gone a be worth it in the aspect of offloading the server ?

-Do you think that I need to add the new server as a member server ?

-Is there any alternative that is working well ?

- If you have any other suggestions it is welcome .

No one ?

I have played yesterday and manage to print form my standalone vista computer to a printer attach to this Ubuntu server. The main question still remain : will it work in a cc3 envirenment ?

Try it and find out?

The RM Management Console requires (from memory) for printers to be listed in AD because it's a drop down box you select from not open space for typing.

Whilst I'm an obvious linux advocate I would wonder whether you'd be better spending out a little on a copy of server 2003 standard as an edu for about £60 or so and do it with a proper member server.
