Hi all.

I had this problem reported to me today and I'm having a bit of a problem getting it resolved.

The PC in question boots up OK and you can then log into Windows XP Pro by typing the username and password but after login the keyboard stops responding.

The Num Lock light stays on and the computer makes a beep every time a key is pressed.

I've tried another USB keyboard but get the same problem. I would try a PS/2 one but the Dell PC doesn't have the connections. I've also deleted and reinstalled the driver.

Any ideas what this could be? Virus maybe? The PC has Sophos installed on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

ensure usb keyboard and usb mouse is enabled in the bios and try again ensuring all drivers ( for motherboard / chipset and for the mouse / keyboard - if any are available are installed ) latest revisions from there websites respectively.

If that does not work I think you can get the USB to PS2 convertors but then if students use those computers then they may damage or get rid of the connectors.

Other then that as a last resort maybe a bios / firmware update.

Thanks for the couple of replies.

Unfortunately doing a roll back did not fix the problem. Looks like the users profile has become corrupt as logging on as a different user everything worked.

So I've now created a new profile and all is well.

Very strange this as when the keyboard went down all she was doing was writing an email.

Thanks again.:o
