ozydave Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hi I s there a way that I can add a printer onto a users profile remotely after they have logged in. The printer is a net work printer. I know I can assign it at login with a script but that is not what I want. This network printer is only for some members of staff. If they come to need this printer they phone me and ask for it to be added. Just trying to save me getting off my backside really. Cheers
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I usually go Run > \\ComputerName\ and add the printer from there. However, sometimes unless the port is added on the actual machine, I can't add the printer.
AngryITGuy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 If the members of staff who need to use the printer always use the same computer and you know the name of the computer you could use Alagus Printer Installer more info here. It won't assign the printer to the user profile but will let you remotely install the printer to the workstation, have used it a few times myself and its really easy to use.
glennda Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 If you have server 2003 R2 you can actually deploy printers using group policy itself, it is rather easy to set up if you have server 2003 r2, all you need is disk 2 and install the print management and you can deploy the printers however you like, may need to get the user to run push printer connections (available online).
