kevbaz Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 First off i wasnt sure what forum to post this in so opted for here Ok heres the situation, back in october i built a new machine, now a few weeks back it packed up, shipped the pats back to ebuyer for test as its still in warrenty and it was found that both my cpu and Graphics card were faulty, was informed that my other parts would be returned to me and that the faulty good would be replaced, i indeed had my parts returned but after 2 weeks of waiting no replacement parts... gave them a ring and it turne dout there was a system error (dont you hate those.....) but it also turns out that theres no direct replacement for what i had so i would be refunded.. so now here i am with an oppotunity to upgrade once again but am in a bit of a quandry as to whats best to get and was just after some other opinions. i am replacing: AMD Phenom X4 9750 2.4GHz Socket AM2+ and Gecube HD 3850 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Im almost certainly going to be replacing the 9750 with a 9950 but when it comes to the graphics card im yet to fully decide... Theres three cards im looking at currently Asus HD 3850 HIS HD 4670 Asus HD 4850 Is it a no brainer and to push my budget to get the 4850? Now im not totally sure on the amount of refund im getting as its not gone in the bank yet but im pretty sure itll be in the reigon of what im looking at. i play games like Empire Total War and Armed Assult and some rpg's what do you think?
Jamo Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Surely the 4870! Its far better than the 4850 and only a little more expensive!! I have one, bought it on release day and ive been really pleased! I was with the price then too! PowerColor HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer
kevbaz Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 £50 more expensive on my limited budget mate, the 4850 really is maxing me out
apoth0r Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I very very very rarely go under £125 for a graphics card, the post above looks like a very good solution. Personally I'm a big fan of the nvidia cards, in particular the BFG ones. Had mine about a year and it's still blisteringly quick!! (I did pay £200 odd for it though) Depends on how long before you upgrade again I guess, I tend to go with a couple of years with a £600/£700 budget every two years.
kevbaz Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 the refund really is all i have to spend, missus lost her job a few months back and cash isnt going spare, i could put £10-£20 to it which would get me the 4850 i think..
Jamo Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 MM thats pretty fair nuff, 4850 is still good though! A huge step from the 38xx series cards. I remember the days when I had money
apoth0r Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Seems like good value for money to me! It's like a free upgrade anyway!
kevbaz Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 yeah thats how im seeing it, a free upgrade with the option of popping in a few quid to get somethin just that little bit better so the 4850 is definatley the one to go for?
matt40k Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 What's wrong with your current rig? (This coming from the guy with a single core 64bit cpu)
kevbaz Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 erm its broke... the cpu and grpahics card are faulty hence my refund
matt40k Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 erm its broke... the cpu and grpahics card are faulty hence my refund Helps if I read!! I'm off back to bed.
