meastaugh1 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 We currently use Papercut 8 for auditing and controlling print use in school. However we have had a request for something which PaperCut doesn't seem to be able to do. A teacher would like students to be able to print to a printer, but only be allowed to print once he has entered a pin-code on their screen. I appreciate PaperCut has the print-release station feature, but since he will be with them at their screens checking work he doesn't want to have to go back and forth to the release station which would be in a different room. Does anyone know of any software that I could use in addition to PaperCut that would cause a user to be prompted for a pin code/password when they send a job to a particular print queue? Thanks
featured_spectre Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Call Christian Mahvi at papercut. He has taken on a few of my suggestions and 1 or 2 have come out in the bug fixes/patches. Always worth a try!

Geoff Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Wouldn't putting a release station next to the printer in question work?
meastaugh1 Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks all for your replies. Call Christian Mahvi at papercut. He has taken on a few of my suggestions and 1 or 2 have come out in the bug fixes/patches. Always worth a try! I have e-mailed PaperCut and was directed to the release station feature. O&K Print Watch Authentication Client - Printing Authentication Client Ben That looks like the sort of thing I'm after, albeit a bit more expensive than I was hoping. Wouldn't putting a release station next to the printer in question work? I was trying to avoid a release station, but that's the fallback if I can't do anything else.
plexer Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 This bifrost - Trac doesn't help you but I thought it sounds cool enough to list it here. Ben
