Intel QX3 Microscope deploy

anyone know a way of deploying this via a script (as it dosent appear to have an msi)

 

i could do it via ghost but if i can script it id prefer to do it that way

 

and can it be installed on the same pc as the qx5 software

aye i just try and avoid ghost these days esp with hardware as you can gurantee it will do something odd like reboot the pc you fire it at even though it diddnt reboot the test pc and you can gurantee someone will be using it lol

 

anyway i have found a scripted solution (well it works locally so i see no reason it wont script)

 

unpack the file somewhere easy to type (i used c:\qx3 as im lazy)

open up a command window and navigate to said directory

go to the install dir and run setup /r then go through the setup program

in explorer go to c:\windows and loog for setup.iss and copy that back to the install directory

to install just run setup /s as long as it has the setup.iss file tehre seems to work fine and on teh same pc as qx5 thank goodness unlike digiblue 1/2/3

I lost days of my life on that pile of s:censored:!

 

Anyway, once you've made it silent you can use WIWW (Windows Installer Wrapper Wizard) to make a dummy msi that will call the native setup program. I've tried this, but can't actually remember if it works. I have a feeling it pops up one dialog box, even when it's supposed to be silent - but that may have been an older version.

well the script works if logged on but does sweet fa as a startup script. I think what i will do is set up a user that installs it then logs out so staff can install it as and when. either that or set a ghost task to run the script. Im in a diff school now and wont get another chance to test it till thursday.

 

digiblue 1/2 is dreadful (i couldnt get oit to work as a ghost package either it either diddnt work properly or in 1 case screwed up the pc so bad it wouldnt boot)AND you need to plug the camera in as an admin into every damed usb port (2.1/3 dont require this). It dosent help some schools i support have a mixture of cameras aswell. At least v3 can be msi'd and dosent require an admin to connect the camera

I've had a similar problem with other install sheild setups. It doesn't seem to be be able to find the setup.iss file. Fistly make sure the setup.iss is in the same directory as the setup.exe.

Then run

setup.exe /s /f1"\\server\fullpath\setup.iss" /f2"c:\windows\temp\setup.log"

 

/f1 is the full path to the install sheild file.

/f2 is a location to save the log file - sometimes install sheild wants this.

I've used this recently - I made autoit script to put the full path and the temp dir in as variables. Then made used a MSI wrapper to run the compiled script.

 

Some help with install sheild installs here: AppDeploy > Tips > InstallShield Setup Silent Installation Switches (I might have thrown in /SMS for good measure). In this article they use -s and -f1. Not sure if it makes any difference.

 

It worked for Power DVD but your mileage may vary!
