on Wednesday of this week i had a bit of a tidy up of the server, moved some files aournd and after there was approx 3.5gb of free space. I checked today and somehow were down to 210mb!!!

i have used Treesize to look at whats taking up the room but there is nothing obvious.

Is there a way of checking what has been saved in the last 2 days to the drive so that i can speak to the person thats responsible.

We just increased the space by 350gb... as our solution...

But in all seriousness, if you have Server 2003 R2 you can use the File Server Resource Tool to lock down things you don't want on there (it can exclude things too) and it also can run a storage report of large files, a neat pie chart of file types etc.

We found that once the ISO's of Spore and Linux etc had been removed, along with about 100 copies of portable firefox and other such portable applications, the biggest drain on storage was our Art Department.

Occupying 300gb of a 500gb raid array! since then they've got dedicated storage and the main storage grows at a manageable rate.
