Fortunately it's only the 3rd so it's not soo bad ;)

Oh and we don't have unlimited local bandwidth anymore - Telkom realised that we were enjoying our internet too much and now it's charged for.

So what are your local and international limits set at? And are you charged thereafter or dropped to a 1,000,000,000:1 contended 256kb line like the days gone?

It depends really. At the moment there are two suppliers for all practical purposes.

IS - Sat. connection, provides whatever the difference is between your initial international cap and 30GB with their accounts. Intl. is hardcapped as is local. Once you hit the cap you're just gone.

Telkom - our joyous people. You can buy local and intl after you're hardcapped.

Standard amount is 3gb still although a lot of people are forced to make do with 1gb.

One day we'll grow up :D

To be fair I do have an uncapped connection at work. 512k shaped for R1689/month.

£133 for a 512kb DSL line. I still see the communications and telephonic industry are taking the country for a ride.

£133 would get you a half decent 5:1, 10:1, 20:1 Business ADSL running at 8MB/s a month. It's a shame people are being taken along for a wild ride.

Yeah we're still being royally screwed :) NeoTel (Second network operator) turned out to be nothing but hot air with crappy wireless and even SEACOM has fallen flat so far.

Aah well :D I'll go check out a first world country one day :D

Greetings from a fellow South African!

I work in a high school now, but my previous job was in an International School that followed the British curriculum. It's been very different and interesting to see the contrasts in styles, methods and indeed finances that run the school.

Although working in a school has downsides, I enjoy it and I hope that by supporting the school, I'm directly helping out the next generation get a head start.

Saying that last sentence made me feel old, goodness me. I was in school myself still 6 years ago! :o
