Symantec Backup Exec Question

Hi,

 

We have 2 servers for storing backups. I would like backups to backup onto both servers each night.

 

I have setup a device pool called monday and put both Monday backup folders one from each server in the folder. the backup will only backup to one folder.

 

Is it possible to backup to both servers using one job?

 

We are using Backup Exec 11d

I would suggest to do it like a disk--disk-tape way but a disk to disk then duplicate to other server

Agreed. Setup a duplicate job linked to your backup that automatically duplicates to your other server after your backup job has finished.

In your backup policy you can create a template rule that says "When job x finishes run job Y"

Create a backup-to-disk folder on the second server and create Job Y which duplicates the data on your first server. This data was created by Job X.

Perhaps you could just learn to use google I know how to do it because I set up a comprehensive backup policy for our servers already.

 

You need to start working things out for yourself, even if it's just spending two seconds googling "backup exec duplicate", second result btw. One of the most difficult to master areas of IT is problem solving, to get better at it you have to search for clues, relevant information and sometimes sit and scream at the problem for a good few hours until you work it out. The manual will also do.

 

Don't take this is as a critisism, it's well meaning essential advice. The key to problem solving is going out and getting answers rather than waiting for them to come to you, and it would be a good idea to start at an early point in your career as you currently are.

 

Oh and i you haven't used backup exec policies, now is when you get to learn that too
