cscc Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Does anyone know if there is a piece of software that will allow non-admin users (teaching staff) to manage network printer queues? We currently use an application called Command Workstation 4 for a couple of Xerox printers which collects any jobs sent to it and leaves them in a queue until they are authorized. Users can login to the application with their own credentials and manage the queues. The only problem is we cannot use this application for other printers because it only seems to pick up the Xerox printers.
bladedanny Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 What we do for our librarian to manage her printers is grant her user account full permissions on the printer and just place a shortcut to the printer on her desktop. This doesn't give her the ability to authorise/deny print jobs but does enable her to delete any massive irrelevent print jobs that uses may have sent to the printer. Hope this helps, Dan
cscc Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Hey, thanks for the reply. We currently have something similar set up for some users in order to prevent members of staff phoning every time a print job gets stuck. I have looked at many applications like PrintManagerPlus etc. but they are overcomplicated for what we need.
bladedanny Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The only other quick fix I can think of, although I'm not too sure of its practicality is to keep the print queue paused then to 'authorise' a print job just un pause the queue. Just an idea, again not sure of its pricticality as i've never tried it.
p858snake Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 PCounter (Pcounter: Cross-platform print auditing, printer accounting, and control) can do it, although i have seen several differnt methods of implemntation.
