sarah09 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Is it possible to connect a Sims database to Crystal reports (9) If so - How? I'm quite new to many things computing so please be as basic as possible if this can be done. Thanks
g_2008 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Yes this is possible but you need to have access to the sims sql database. When you have this all you need to to is link it as an sql data source in crystal. I would check with capita / your LA if they are happy with you doing this as i know sometimes they get funny about it. I would recomend that you use the command reporter tool that is included with sims to get the data you require and output it to a csv that you then use that in crystal.
matt40k Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Hi Sarah, Sounds like you don't actually want to use crystal, I would look at the reporting engine in SIMS .net. Focus | Reports. Which will pull out any information a school will ever likely need. Your LEA will use Crystal on the ONE\EMS system, which is basically a large (LEA-style) "sims" system. Regards,
sarah09 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Sorry i should have given a bit more info. I work for an la and want to teach myself crystal and if i can attach it to the training data set of sims to practise with. But i've tried to see how you attach it and it has me completely stumped
matt40k Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Sorry, never heard of anyone wanting to nor needing to run crystal reports against the SIMS database. They use crystal on the ONE system, but that's different. That's only now going .net!! What are you trying to pull out of SIMS?
sarah09 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Nothing specific i just want a familiar dataset to play around with to learn how to use crystal to report
matt40k Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Ask on SupportNet (Local Authority forums --> One: Crystal Reports).
sarah09 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 All my forums on supportnet are for sims, i don't have a forum for One
