mehball Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 A lot of people are finding that when they try to send to their own distribution lists that they've created and have stored in their Outlook Address Book -> Contacts, that the list does not resolve i.e. it appears in the To field but is not underlined. When they go to the dropdown box after clicking on the To button, the global address list is there but the Outlook Address Book and Contacts subheading are missing. Now, I think we've found a potential solution to this: if the Contacts folder is right-clicked and you choose Properties, then go to the Outlook Address Book tab, the tick box that says ' Show this folder as an email address book' is unticked. Ticking this would, I believe, bring the folder back (and start resolving distribution lists), but for users it is greyed out. Assuming this is the issue, is there a way we can set it so that users have access to this option… or a way we can change it alternatively?
mehball Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 I thought this would be the best place to post this as it looks like a permissions problem on windows.
SYNACK Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I know this one, it is because those users do not have a personal address book installed on their profile. You just need to go into account settings in Outlook on the affected users accounts and then add a new personal address book. Can't remember the exact wording as its been a while since XP but after you restart outlook you should be able to add the tick that you spoke about to the contacts folder to make it all work as it should.

Thanks When we click next to create a new Personal Address Book it comes up with an error saying they we need that tick box ticked.
SYNACK Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Can you do it from within the mail control pannel applet instead?
bossman Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 @shane_saintsfc: The real problem is that you are using outlook to start with, proprietary software always comes with it's costs, be it money or problems, at least with open source solutions the problems caused are just that problems.
