In days gone by teachers may have asked students to write about themselves and/or friends and familly for a piece of work.

Considering the hoops we have to jump through because of the DPA these days, the question is now can/should teachers still do this?

Even worse should they ask them to write about these topics and then stick them on the wall as part of a display?

Don't forgot the inevitable publishing to the web ;) EEK!

As long as you put in your DPA paperwork that you will be using data excempt from notification (ie personal data used within the context of a lesson) and you can opt to volounteer that you will notify people (which can be done by publishing the medium term plan / SoW ... mentioning that student information, ie likes and dislikes, will be used) then you are covered.

We have the opt out put into the newsletter once a year for displaying photos and/or work with forename only on the website.

Requests, as ever, must be in writing.
