Just sold a memory card, Does anyone know of a good free data shredder to stop any files from being recoverable.

Install Eraser and use the wipe free space option - number of passes up to you based on paranoia level.

Another way would be use TrueCrypt full disk encryption, and then format it afterwards...

Does what it says on the tin, I have tried it with mem cards and it does work.

Does file shredder clear areas of the disk that had been used previously? It appears to be a secure replacement for delete, but this would not remove data from files that have previously been deleted. Also, I'm not sure it is necessary to do multiple passes of writing random data on flash disks, and doing so a lot would even shorten the life of the device. I know that some hard disk data recovery tools should NOT be used on flash drives, and suspect the logic could be applied to wiping too.

It has options to do everything, including unused space, and dod level cleaning.

 

There is also the microsoft command line utility.
