Smoothwall - Session Timeout?

Hi Everyone,

 

I've been receiving emails today from a few staff, saying that the internet keeps on timing out when viewing the registers on E1 and when using email OWA.

 

In smoothwall, i have changed the Authentication timeout in minutes to 20... but this doesn't seem to have helped much..

 

Example email below:

In some of the classrooms on level 7 when you are on e1 or the email and you submit a register or go to send an email, the page comes up as 'This web page cannot be displayed' as though the internet connection has been lost. This means that you have to close the page and re login to e1 or email and redo the register and write the email. It is causing a lot of hassle in terms of registers being lost. Please please can someone have a look at it.

Some staff have discovered that if you open another IE, then switch to the register, it will then send.

 

Also if a student logs on to a PC that a member of staff was logged into before, then it still thinks that there is a member of staff logged on, but changes a short while after, when it authenticates them as themselves. can we change this? or is this to do with the same problem?

 

Any one have any recommendations?

Probably the auth timeout being extended is causing the 2nd problem. With NTLM its ok to have this fairly low. Default is 10. Try putting these sites in "do not authenticate for" or, better still, if they are internal, bypass the filter altogether for them.

Hi Tom,

 

Were using NTLM Identification. As using NTLM Authentication, was too much for the box and caused it to fall.

 

I've made the changes now, lets see if that clears the problem.
