Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Has anybody managed to get search engine friendly URL's working on EMBC Web1/Web2? I've enabled it but it keeps redirecting back to the homepage. I'm not sure if this is anything to do with the fact that I am also having to type in index.php to get the page to display. I assume that Plesk is probably looking for index.html or similar.
Messa Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 is there a .htaccess.txt ? if so you may need to rename this to just .htaccess
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 is there a .htaccess.txt ? if so you may need to rename this to just .htaccess Isn't that just a Linux thing?
Messa Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah, didnt realise it was windows Never used EMBC was just speaking from general knowledge Sorry pal
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Thank you. I've logged a call with Synetrix to see whether the index.php is something they have to change however any help from somebody already using Synetrix hosting would be appreciated!
kmount Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Log into your Plesk Panel and add it yourself; save the need for them to do so. As for your SEO urls; I don't know the answer there, sorry.

I've looked for the option but can't find it. As for the URL's. http://www.mydomain.co.uk/site/index.php/news/36-general-school-news/105-test It's creating the URL's and changing the address in the address bar but the actual page isn't changing.
kmount Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Login Click Web Directories Click Preferences Confirm the path at the top says /httpdocs Documents Section, add it in there.
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) I can't see Web Directories. I did try looking already. Edit: Found it! It's under Virtual Directories. Edited March 9, 2009 by Edu-IT
kmount Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Totally there for me :] (I'm on web1 though but you'd think they would be the same for manglement purposes)
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Totally there for me :] (I'm on web1 though but you'd think they would be the same for manglement purposes) I found it under Virtual Directories. Web1 has the old Plesk version. Web2 is running version 9 with Web1 running version 8.
kmount Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Right ... Because that makes sense =) So, you found it? good.
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Right ... Because that makes sense =) So, you found it? good. I found it but it hasn't made much difference. I put index.php at the top of the list but it still comes up with a 404 Not Found unless I type in /index.php which is odd.
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Right, so I can't get that to work. Apparantly I need an ISAPI rewriter for the SEF links to work. Perhaps this isn't installed and that is why it doesn't work. I'm so tempted to find a cheap Linux host.
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Why do I get the feeling you're taking the.... I've not completely wasted my time as turning off the friendly URL's has fixed the index.php not showing problem.
kmount Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 No no, I wasn't taking it out of you; I'm just consistently surprised by Synetrix. - The conference tomorrow will be interesting.
Messa Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I would have thought they would have a Windows and Linux Server, especially dealing with school and the wide range of skillsets ;p That said i haven't got a windows server yet, not had much demand for it though hehe
