masud Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hi, Could anyone please direct/advise me about purchasing a server for MAC computers. We have 23 Apple MAC running MAC OX ops. Currently students save their work on local drive which makes them running quite slow as the HD getting full. Any advise about the server which would be compatible and cost effective and can be easily networked with all others would be much appreciated. Many Thanks Mas
GAS Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hi, PM me your phone no, we have apple server setup. Ajay
Face-Man Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 We used a company called Toucan to install and maintain our xserve. They where very good and basically did everything we wanted including ad integration. If you just want some advice they are very good as well call Steve Bonnick on 0208 351 5111 depending where you are he may even offer to come a visit you. their website is Toucan Computing
saundersmatt Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 If all you want is to have the Macs connect to their windows home directory, you don't even need a Mac Server. You can configure clients to authenticate windows users and mount their home directories. Matt
GrumbleDook Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Another plus for Toucan. Others I would recommend are Solutions Inc, KRCS and GMB. All can be found on the Apple Solutions Expert page of the Apple website.
FN-GM Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 You can manage the mac clients well with mac server. At my last school i decided to go down the route of buying a Mac Mini and installing OSX server on that. Worked a treat. The machine doesn't so much to a Mac Mini is fine for the job
