We are currently looking at replacing our current netgear managed wireless network.(school wide coverage, but cannot cope with capacity of a class set of 30 concurrent laptop users logging in and internet usage) I was wondering if anyone had any experience and opinions on Ruckus, Extricom and Xirrus. Has anyone got any of the systems in or had any experience with them? Would anyone who has any of these systems in place be kind enough to allow a site visit to see the systems in operation?

I'm sure a quick search of edugeek using the term ruckus would give you enough info to keep you happy.

Do people not realise you can search?

Thanks for your reply, for your information Yes i have done a search on this forum and i have a demo of the Ruckus kit on site.(also extricom)We have installed this system but have not been overly impressed only 15 of the class set were able to successfully log on ,hence this is why i have posted my question on the forum.

Meru, Ruckus, Extricom, Aruba are all good solid wirless systems my favourites are meru and Extricom with Ruckus a close second Aruba aren't bad but for high density installs Meru and Extricom would be my bet. Haven't heard of Xirrus though.

I would say, before you buy a new system check your existing one is setup correctly.

We use the Netgear Managed solution and run 6 Class Sets of 20 Laptops, sometimes with sets in adjacent classrooms and very rarely have any issues (we've had a couple of AP's not responding in the last 6 months, that needed resetting)

What are you going to do with your old system?

Thanks for dicussing this earlier, I think we have this resolved based on the encryption method used and we will see once the testing starts again.

Back to you soon

I've installed Extricom into 4 Plymouth schools and it supports 30 users in any class. These are thin clients, so demand a constant and uninterupted connection. (netbooks to Win Tserver2003)

PM me for more info - I don't want to post the school names on a public forum as they may not appreciate the attention.
