excel password

hi, first post..hope you can help.

 

I saved a sensitive excel document with a well thought out password. Being dumb I saved no record of the password, so now I cant access the work sheet to retrieve the information.

 

Is there software (free) that I can use to recover the password?

does opening it in open office let you in?

If it was done in an older version of Office, I think pre 2003 then its very easy to use brute force to figure out the password. More so if you know if there are upper case letters and where along with numbers o rnot.
