[Answered] Can I change from TKIP to AES and not re-enter passwords?

Quick question, if I change our wireless routers here [about 10, all with the same SSID and passphrase so people can roam] from TKIP encryption, to AES encryption, and change nothing else, will clients who have the passphrase in their system need to re-enter it? Or will the change be seamless and their systems will still be able to connect the next morning using the same password?

 

Also, is the change from TKIP to AES something you would recommend? I'm hearing more and more that that's the way to go.

The wireless configuration on each client will also have to be reconfigured to AES before they will able to connect. This will probably also mean re-entering the PSK passphrase.

 

Switching to AES does provide improved security, but if you are serious about improving the security of your wireless network you should look into using WPA Enterprise (i.e. using a RADIUS server such as IAS on Windows), instead of using a PSK.
