Recommended logging program?

Im looking for some sort of software to monitor and log the internet usage in one of my schools, does anyone know of a good program that would do it?

 

I was also wondering if setting up a proxy on the curriculum server that forwards onto the main LEA proxy would work and have our local proxy track internet usage and log it? is this a good idea?

If all you want to do is log, you just need a transparent proxy that forwards the requests to an upstream proxy. An old P4 machine running Smoothwall Express will be more than adaquate for this.
