I have got a problem here, we have exchange server 2003 and it works just fine, so good in fact the pupils are using internal mail as a chat client through OWA. What I mean by this is that email is so fast they are wasting time in lessons chatting to each other.

 

My question is, is it possible to delay the sending or delivery of inetrnal or even external email by say 4 or 5 minutes. Seems a strange request I know to ask for email to be slowed down but the kids are really abusing the system. Again some people will argue the point that it is down to classroom management but the little blighters are so good at concealing their activities.

 

Any Exchange wiz kids out there with a solution.

The only way I could think of doing it would be to route mail through a mail relay back to the exchange box and delay at the mail relay (linux box running exim processing mail queue every 5 mins for example - will delay all mail, internal and external). Don't think there's a way to do it through routing groups or anything like that.

 

There may be a way to do it through SMTP connectors, based around the following, but I'm not 100% sure how:

How to take a back of PST File while using the OWA for each individual client to keep intrack of the messages in order to be not deleted.
