VNC Freezing Desktop

NB: I know some people frown upon graphical installations, however I don't fancy sitting around staring at black and white screens all day.

 

We currently have a Quad Xeon, 4GB RAM 500GB SCSI Squid box, which is running a custom OS, derived from the ubuntu repositories (LFS) So many of the core components and behaviour are Ubuntu-ish. Running GNOME.

 

We have VNC enabled on the server, however whenever we VNC into the machine, from home or internally, the background screen freezes, and the interface freezes. We are unable to select, close or open any window.

 

This problem hasn't always been around, only as of late. Any ideas as to why this happens, or anyone know of a VNC-esque applications to control the same functionability.

Use putty. It gives lots of nice greens and reds as well as the black and whites

It could be the snow - the data gets cold on the way from your house and freezes the server:D

This will be a graphics card driver bug. Either in the kernel or the x.org driver. check for updates.

 

Failing that, post it as a bug on launchpad.
