danrhodes Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Hi, We are having a problem with SynchronEyes Student. When students are using this software in one of our ICT Suites it randomly freezes the machines leaving them un-usable. To get around the problem they have to be hard-reset by holding down the power button. I have contacted Smart and Steljes who run the support for Smart, they have checked the version number and all the installs are up to date. The puzzling thing is, we have removed it from one of our suites where is was happening the most, and all the issues have gone, not a single freeze in over a week. So it cant be our Infrastructure that is at fault. Any body had this before, or got any ideas? D
Redbottom Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Hi I have no idea what this software does but by the sounds of the problem It could well be network. The rooms which are haven the problem are they on the same switch. The reason why I ask is that I have seen a simlar problem where the connections between the switches need to set to the default speed IE 100 full duplex and disable spanning tree or even the switches firmware needs updating. The problem could be the envoment Ie the workstations are running to warm in there present location. Hope this helps
danrhodes Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Hi, We doubt that it is the Infrastructure as we have removed the Program from one room and the freezing has not happeded for over 1 week. So it does look like the problem is software based. D
timbo343 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 We have got this program running but only on version 6... and we have no problems with it at all. For those that dont know what this program is, its a better version than netop and i think Sync'eyes is the best software we have bought for teachers to use for monitoring their class
danrhodes Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 I must agree timbo it is a very good piece of software for classroom management we use it in all our ICT suites and the teachers love it, untill it freezes their machies. D
GrumbleDook Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Make use of tools like Procmon to log what is happening on the machines prior to lockup. It may be a conflict between synchroneyes and other software (eg AV / anti-spyware software) and worth working on.
timbo343 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I take it you have tried looking for updates with-in the program its self? What happens if you only put it on.... say.... 2 machines? Does the Problem still occur?
Spitfire Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 We had exactly this problem when we were trialing classroom management software, it randomly wouldn't pick some of the "Student" computers, needless to say we didn't proceed with this but went for LanSchool, a much better product
TheScarfedOne Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Running the product over here at the moment (7.0.2 version I think?) - in 5 ICT suites. Make sure that you have configured the clients to only try to connect to the recognised teacher machine. Havent come across the freeezing problem - and two of my ICT suites are on the same switch stack. What other software is running on the machines at the time?
