Hello there, this is an area that I have so far not had to deal with so basically have no clue.

A pupils work has been deleted, checked the trash can and no joy.

The pupils work was deleted on Friday, I do have the backup tape from Thursday.

So basically can I search the backup tapes for his work/Home Folder?

If so, how would I do this.

Something else to add its RM servers running RM Backup.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Hi there!

Pop the tape in.

Click start, run, type ntbackup and press enter.

It should offer you a wizard to use for a restore and list an 8mm AIT (typical RM Tape Drive) in which you should be able to find the tape label and navigate to find the students work.

Be patient though, tape access is slow because it's sequential start to finish.

Also, it might be advisable to restore to a temporary location to verify it's the correct stuff rather than blindly overwriting.

Good luck, of if you hit any oddities, fire me a PM tomorrow and I'll work through one with you on one of our RM Servers. (We don't use ntbackup anymore though).

Hope this helps.

Kim.

All I want is an wasy life

Tried the NTbackup, selected the files to back up too a temp location but it hanged on "mounting backup media" or very similiar.

I bounced a support request to RM and they suggested to re-catalogue the backup media, the original tape still wont mount but I tried another tape and this did mount.

Ran out of time as I am a part time techie so will have to look at it again on Friday.

Whats more worrying is potentially having dodgy backup tapes

But thankyou for you advice Kmount, might come back too you yet if thats ok
