How do you convert Sony m2t files to be used in adobe premier elements?

Help, this is really getting to me.

 

I have googled and googled and googled some more to find out how, when i convert in the Sony camera software to Avi, it is very bad quality and the Media department are chewing at me to get this sorted.

 

Any ideas?

 

I just want a conversion to work so we can use the captured vid from the Sony Cams.

Right ok, Is it possible you can connect the camera to a PC via a USB cable, install the drivers only (if needed) for the camera and pull them off that way???

You could try playing it through a TV and recording it onto a DVD? I think thats possible.

They may be in .mpg format so in premiere you may have to install the codec from the adobe site.

the usb is well known for being flakey and they are not in .mpg they are in m2t.

 

I have tried and tried with the usb but it doens't work which is really annoying.

 

I will look into codecs though.

the usb should be fine... we have a panasonic HDD camera here. All i did was stick the USB in, copy the .mpg files from the camera (it found it just like a usb flash drive) onto another drive.

 

Have you tried using Super converter to convert the files.

On this page at the bottom click start downloading Super>>>> then on that page click download and use just outside the red text box>>> it at the bottom of that page Download super setup

You might find the following thread on the VideoHelp forums useful. In the first post there is a script that will automatically create an .avs file and thus enable you to open the .m2t files directly in Premiere for editing. http://forum.videohelp.com/topic346331.html

 

There are also some instructions here related to the above script that goes into a bit more detail. N.B. From Step 5 onwards you would use Premiere instead of Super.

While searching for other solutions I came across a program called NeoScene by Cineform which looks much easier to use. Unfortunately, it's not free but it is not too expensive at $129 (£92) and would make your job a lot easier.

I know this is an old thread but I've just bought Neoscene and it's really good. It converts the m2t files to avi of the same resolution without any discernable loss. I can now edit multiple timelines using Premiere CS4 on my dual core computer and it runs as smooth as a baby's bum. I got it for $99 from Videoguys.com 800 323-2325 we are the video editing and production experts and there's a full trial version available. The alternative was a new system.
