Setup firewalls on staff laptops

For staff laptops that they use at home mostly and sometimes at work what do you do for firewalling.

 

Do you just use Windows firewall or do you also use prodicts like comodo or Loze Alarm?

Personal believer of 'one firewall on the network only' at point of entry. We have a firewall on the schools network, as does County (our ISP) on their network - up line. I assume (rightly or wrongly) that the teachers have a modem/router with built in firewall. So I disable the Windows Firewall, and no I don't install any alternatives like zone alarm.

 

Any serious problems and I'll re-ghost the laptop at any rate!

So you may have staff who use their laptop at home with no fire wall but Microsoft (if they don't have firewall on home router)

Yep, sounds about right.

 

If they want to use the school laptops on their home internet connection then it is their responsibility to make sure it is secure, etc. They can put whatever hardware/software they like on it.

 

We supply the laptop, office, antivirus, a local admin account for them to log-on with and the facility to log on to the school network with their standard domain log on. Everything is up to them.

 

Like I say, at the end of the day, any serious problems and I'll just re-image the

machine.

In agreement with tmcd35 here, this is the way we do it.

 

Make staff aware that if they aren't responsible and something goes wrong, the machine is reimaged.
