MrPstv Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Advice needed please,Promethean board has no power tried the obvious(power supply) to no joy. is it worth getting someone in to repair or just replace it? recommend a company who do repair these boards.
jamesb Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Fuse? I recommend checking with whoever supplied it how much a repair would cost, checking the age of the board, and looking up the price of a nice shiny new one. If its an older board then standard wear and tear will take its toll even if you have it repaired, so from a long-term point of view it may be cheaper to replace it.
MrPstv Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Fuse? i'm not a teacher lol First thing i tried. Even tried the switch on the wall! Tried the Promethean power supply get beeps as it is powered up but no movement of cursor and the light on board not lit. As for age well its about 4 years+ .
jamesb Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Probably best just to replace it in that case. That way you get a brand new warranty to go with your brand new board.
bossman Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 @Hamzah: It will probably be the control unit at the back of the board, last time i replaced one of these the cost was approx £350 from Promethean you may be able to get cheaper from another supplier though.
accura2000 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I take it you have tried a different PC/laptop on the board? Just to eliminate the computer causing the problem. Also try a different serial/usb cable. Then try removing the drivers for the board, downloading the new ones and installing them after a reboot. Just a thought as i have boards that are 5 years old and work flawlessly.
garthsmojo Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I have a load of spare control units if you need one just let me know which one you need.
old_fogey Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 if you have checked all the leads, try checking another power supply on the board, sometimes the PSU on Promethean boards drop voltage and the electronic control pack won't fire up. Also if your board, is a far distance from the controlling PC/laptop and it is serial connected, then check to see if the installed used a Serial Lead extension, if they did check the connection. If it is USB connected check the power connection lead (usually behind the board) hasn't come adrift. If all else fails try removing the connector from the back of the board, turn off the board power supply, wait 2 Minutes, then reconnect the board and turn on the power. The Electronics packs on the boards are very senistive and usually blow if subjected to too many power spikes of outages
