Windows 7 Beta gets official this Friday

 

Starting on July 1, 2009 any new systems purchased [Vista] will be eligible for the no-charge update

I just installed build 7000 on my laptop last night out of bordom.

 

i really like the new lil bits here and there + it works

Its on technet btw now but not volume licensing downloads.

Hadn't really paid a lot of attention to Windows 7 development at all.

I saw the article in the second link first, and was surprised to see that as soon as this July you'll be able to buy new systems with the rights for a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is finally launched - surprised because I didn't realise we were that close to the next OS, and because it means that quite a lot of folk will effectively leap-frog Vista all together.

 

AND, now that cat's out the bag, folk will delay purchasing new hardware to take up that option - just what the hardware vendors didn't need in tough times!
