Hyper V Manager for Windows XP

I wouldn't imagine you can given it has a pre-requisite of Vista SP1, but having not tried it, I can't specifically comment. Google hasn't helped much either, sorry.

Erm, my knowledge of server 2008 mostly comes from a chappy from MS telling me how uber it is so there's probably a good reason why this won't work.

 

Could you use 2008's application publishing to make the manager available on your XP desktop.

I don't know much more, but I'm under the impression that terminal services in 2008 can make individual applications available instead of the whole desktop. Kinda like X2 or Citrix. But I don't know for certain, I havn't had a chance to play with it.

There is no Hyper-V manager for Windows XP, only for Vista & Server 2008 (which is a shame).

Thanks for the comments. I decided Hyper V wasn't the best option. I stuck with VMware and upgraded to server version 2.

Thinking a little out the Box you could use some sort of TS to do this.. web App publishing via TS2008 perhaps.. though you would need the infrastructure there though. I see you decided to stick with VM fair enough... i have put Vista on my PC at work (and use this to manage my Hyper-V core server), and i run Virtual Server 2005 on it with XP for all the important stuff that doesn't run correctly in Vista ADUC Exchange Snapins i even do most of my GPO editing in XP since our workstations are still XP
