VOIP or alternative phone number? : Advice please

Until recently I've been using my mobile phone to handle what little business calls I need to receive but because a side-line is starting to take off I've noticed the need for a separate business phone number that can avoid confusing potential or actual customers with our personal answerphone message.

In truth I've really not bothered to learn about VOIP because time has been taken up with a hundred other things but I'm aware that it could be a potential solution and I'd rather not have to pay out for a separate line as I suspect that's overkill.

So, here's casting my net wide and asking for suggestions on where to look, possible solutions, etc...

Just as a guide the general guidelines or spec's I have are:

Kit (ie: what I have):

- landline = BT

- ISP: Be There Broadband

- Vario III - T-mobile with data package

Needed:

- ability to try landline, then mobile

- cut to system or mobile voicemail before getting the landline (personal) voicemail

- low cost

Having spoken to someone in the know to a point (although not so much with VOIP) I'm really after recommendations on suppliers because my head is spinning at high rate with all the information.. Simple would be appreciated.. :)

Thanks in advance.

Ive bought a skype IN phone number. People phone that real number and it rings my skype. If i dont answer, i can set it to forward to my mobile (costs skype out credit) or to go to the skype answerphone. Its been great.

It also means, people can phone me anywhere in the world if i have my skype online, by them just dialling a local number.
