Printing Direct without spool on CC3

Is there a way to reapply a printers setting to print directly to a laser cutter (uses a printer driver). We have CC3 and if I apply the setting then as soon as I log off it reverts back to using the spool. Then I tried making a new custom workstation with the reg key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\printer name\DsSpooler\printspooling Direct print. This made no difference Then I tried denying permissions on that part of the reg. This i found to be very negative as the next day the machine had no printers at all and denied me adding any. I have since rebuilt the machine and tried placing it in console under its own folder with no inherited packages printers etc. and after selecting all the packages and hotfixes to deploy and no other printers installed (I thought it could be something to do with having other (networked) printers installed that could have forced a default spooler onto this printer)

Try this method, Set a logon script to run at startup. Inside the logon script enter:

REM ----BOTH MUST BE SAME ON ADD AND SET PRINTER----

REM ----ADD THE PRINTER----

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /ga /n \\SERVERNAME\PRTSHARENAME

 

REM ----SET THE PRINTER AS DEFAULT----

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /ga /n \\SERVERNAME\PRTSHARENAME /y

 

REM ----RESTART THE SPOOLER----

net stop spooler

net start spooler

Otherwise if this is not what you are after you can add a local printer that is isn't local but is actually network connected. To do this follow the steps below:

 

1. Open Pritners and Faxes

2. Add a new local printer making sure to uncheck Auto Detect

3. Select create a new port

4. Select Standard TCP/IP Port

5. Follow the Add printer wizard through entering the printers IP address and printer details.

6. The printer will then be installed as a local printer but connected via Ethernet.

7. To print direct to the printer and cut out the spooler, right click on the printer you have just added and select properties

8. On the Advanced Tab, select print direct to printer, unselecting Spool Documents before printing.

I would either creat a direct TCP/IP connection & the other option is to try and set the printer properties on the print server so they are inherited when you install on a client

Yep that would work, put the settings you want on the server and they shoud, go down to clients.

Sorry I should have said before its a parallel port job, so the printers local to the machine its just the direct print reverts back to spool whenever anyone logs on.

Erm, try logging on to the local admin account and changing the settings?Does it still change back?

 

Have you checked permissions, make it so that user can print and only admins can change print settings?
