Double bullets

When I modify a menu that came with the edugeek package, I get a single bullet and a rollover color change effect. When I create my own menus, I end up with 2 bullets, if I want the indented rollover effect, or a left justified bullet only without the rollover.

How do I duplicate the look of the provided sample menus?
