meastaugh1 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 We're thinking about the possibility of allowing students/staff access to the terminal servers to allow them access to applications used at school. I'd be interested to hear how schools deal with licence issues in doing this. The terminal services/windows licences is straightforward enough, but do you purchase additional application licences for each user that has access to the TS? I appreciate this might differ wildly dependent upon the app/vendor. Also, have schools had problems in getting their broadband consortium/grid to open the necessary port? Thanks.
kmount Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 We're toying with opening up TS to the staff here to use from home but we'll only be allowing X concurrent connections and different people say different things about the licensing and I'm confused to be honest. We haven't even got the licensing side for apps yet!
SpuffMonkey Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Application licensing is a nightmare - for MS stuff - its a per device license - so you need a license for every device that accesses the software remotely - quite expensive if you have all students and staff expecting to use it, possibly from multiple computers. Afaik your cannot get a "concurrent" license for MS products (Office and the like) - so its all or nothing.
