SOftware to check speed of hardware?

At the moment I am trying out different PCs and one thing I would like to do is compare their speeds in whichever way I can to get an overall picture of which PC might be the best to purchase.

 

Does anybody know of any software that might do this, so I can print off some stats for the SMT?
