Other school tech forums????? rescources

Hello all, after taking a side step into a slightly different career, i was wondering if there are any other online resources you could recommend? Specifically forums, many thanks :-)

We have thought about starting other 'geek' forums using the technical data we already have, although they would be 'invisible' top each other but you could search information on all forums transparently.

Otehr forums have come and gone ... some due to work commitments, some due to lack of uptake.

 

There are still a number of other good places to look for information, some of them are blogs, some are mailing lists and some are other forums.

 

Becta has a new forum site Becta collaboration: Clearspace: Becta collaboration ... they also have a number

 

Becta have also runn a number of low usage mailing lists for some time.

 

JISC have an extensive mail service run via JISCMail.ac.uk ... Mac-Supporters and VLES are favourites of mine.

 

There are specific groups for Moodle Moodle - A Free, Open Source Course Management System for Online Learning , Sharepoint SharePoint User Group UK ... there are others out there that take a little digging for.

 

Google Groups is a good place to access usenet for things like the microsoft usent groups or places like uk.education.schools-it (not very busy now, but has a good archive of discussions and advice).

 

Blogs ... there are far to many to mention ... good use of del.icio.us is needed here, and there are a number of people on here that with a little prodding will give you their del. usernames for you to subscribe to.

 

For certifications I still point people to CertForums (there is a certain cross-over of membership) as a good place too.

 

For the educational side then the TES forums would be a good place to look ... if you can stomach the new interface.

 

Techrepublic.com and experts-exchange.com are well used ... techtarget.com has a number of good news lists to keep you up to date.

 

Slashdot and The Register are good places too ... but when you get into the discussions (or comments) you will get a poor signal to noise ratio.

 

The wiki has a number of other suggestions (and I think it needs to be updated to reflect the above ... voloutneers anyone?)

I've been following the podcast hosted over at IT Conversations - Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood plan to redefine the technical answers forum, and from what I've seen so far (on the private beta for the last couple of weeks) are doing pretty damn well at it.
