Has anyone heard of or used this company DATASPIRE SOLUTIONS LTD.?

The IT boss(the head) has some info regarding the install of thin clients. I was just wondering is it worth the money? as we are just a Primary school of 700 pupils .not clued up on this subject. will applications like knowledge box run? audio streaming? help!

we've just had a trial put in, guy came and configured a server to our network and created a bespoke winxp install and a ghost image of a old machine of ours that runs as a thin client. took 3 days. In terms of the software and server and that side, they seem extremely clued up on their own systems and windows servers/networks in general. It seems to be quite a bespoke solution. they use citrix with appsense and some software they made themselves on the old machines.

We do a load of Thin Client work in schools, we have avoided Primaries as we feel that the nature of the computing done is not what Thin Clients do best.

I would be cautious about deploying them unless you are happy that the application stack you have will run well.

Most of the issues are around the multimedia intensive apps used in primaries.

The other one to look at is the infrastructure required to run server-centric computing. Most primaries are not geared up for this.

To be honest, in Northants if you want Windows / Sun based solutions then Cutter are the bunch to speak with and for Citrix you have DataSpire or Capita .ICT.

Remember that if you are a primary using RM CC3 and associated software then you would have to find suitable replacements.

So ... sitting on the fence really!

Basically we are just looking towards the future and the obvious money saving in the long term, sales guy came in 2 weeks ago gave us a ball park figure of which i nearly fell off my chair!! gave us the low down on how it works ,30 clients per server, 1 hybrid per class, ict suite all hybrids. is it worth it? that is the question? So have you any personal experience of primary schools? if so it would be good to know more.Have you got an alternative?

We use Dataspire here (Northampton) and are happy with them. We're secondary though - so not sure how applicable it would be to primary.

You're welcome to come and have a look if you fancy an outing.

We're a special school and currently have their trial/proof of concept installed and we're really pleased with it... our only issues are with County and Reverse Proxies and SSL Certificates... meaning we can't yet test the remote web-access desktop.

Really pleased over all so far!
