More and more people are saying that this is Apple's most repairable laptop since 2012!  Even the keyboard that in most Windows PC laptops are stuck on with plastic rivets appear to be screwed in place on the MacBook Neo - still a pain to replace it but it is at least replaceable.  The battery and USB-C ports are very easy to change but the fact that the RAM and Storage are soldered to the motherboard/logicboard is still a big negative for me but that's the way it seems to be going for a lot of manufacturers sadly.

Spent a bit of time pouring over various sources this weekend and there's a definitely divide. Many of the shills are cooing over the performance from it whereas lots of people not conducting paid/sponsored reviews are saying it's not a patch on a similarly priced Windows laptop. Some of those however haven't even had their hands on one, so I'm still taking that with a pinch of salt but some are definitely reputable. 

I'm very happy to see the level of repairability though, and not at all surprised that some parts would stay soldered otherwise they would be cutting into their higher end products. But that's the rub - I know full well that this is the first free/cheap shot of crack to get a junky addicted, and once they've had that taste...

I would be very annoyed if any schools went down the route of getting these in any quantity as a result.

the basic iPad  and mac mini continue to exists, so unless they lose money on this  hand over fist, I'd expect the future upsell to be minimal. But no school should be spending £10,000's without understanding what they are buying, and today, you'd need to understand that your are trailblazing by purchasing a class  set of these. If you've already got MDM and authentication set up, the risk is close to zero - I mean at the very worst they can be re-imagined into faux mac-mini's. But if you've got all that, you've probably ordered at least one to check it out, reducing risk even further.
