timbo343 Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 We are testing deploying Smoothwall Cloud Filter on Windows devices via Intune for Chrome browser. We have managed to get it to deploy and the script is adding the correct entry to the registry however the extension is reporting "Provisioning Failed - No response from Native Client". Smoothwall:// diagnostics are not reporting anything because it seems it cannot communicate to the cloud filter. Is there something we are missing? The ChromeOS extension is working as expected with no problems.
ThomL Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 (edited) I had an issue with the Cloud Filter extension that sounds similar to this; if it's the same issue I needed to enable 'Force Windows executable Native Messaging hosts to launch directly' as detailed here: https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/20641568699804-Chrome-and-Edge-browser-configurations-for-Cloud-Filter-Extension Edited November 26, 2025 by ThomL
ThatBoringBloke Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 You've probably already looked here, but this was a great help when I was trying to get it to work: https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/sections/14416649318300-Cloud-Filter-Extension-on-Windows Just a shame it doesn't work with GCPW.
timbo343 Posted November 26, 2025 Author Posted November 26, 2025 It's to do with the msi (or in this case the intunewin) not being installed. If we install the MSI manually to the laptop the extension works as expected.
timbo343 Posted November 26, 2025 Author Posted November 26, 2025 I know what i've done, I got distracted when adding the intunewin file to intune 🤦♂️ Lets see what happens now!
timbo343 Posted November 26, 2025 Author Posted November 26, 2025 The Smoothwall Unified Client is now on the laptop however Smoothwall have missed out a step - add the MSI to Intune. Windows Apps > Create > Line of Business app > upload the MSI > edit the assignments > Save. All working now. 2
