How to disable / block 'Let the app change my printer preferences'

Hi All,

We're starting to get a number of staff printing things with the print printer settings, as the default printer preferences are being overwritten. The issue seems to be with the Windows Print System Dialog box which now has a (Ticked by default) option to save any preferences you pick for that one print, as the default. This is shown at the bottom as 'Let the app change my printer preferences'.

So far, I've not found a method of blocking this or disabling it. Google (And it's AI) seems to be drawing a blank, other than disable the 'Let windows manage my default printer' option, which doesn't seem to make any difference to this.

Anyone come across this?

We're running Windows 11 25H2. Not sure when this was introduced.

Cheers,

Rob

Not any help but we have the same issue, they say since Half Term it is saving the last job settings which if it was booklet for example is annoying. Everything online is about making preferences stick

Has anyone made on progress on this? We're running into a load of problems with printing due to the defaults being changed. We're printing certain that the issue is with this check box being set for staff. But as yet we have still not found any solution to either disabling this by default, or restricting users from changing printing properties (Default ones) to pervert it.

Switching back to the legacy print dialog box is one way around it.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Print\UnifiedPrintDialog]
"PreferLegacyPrintDialog"=dword:00000001

or

reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Print\UnifiedPrintDialog" /v "PreferLegacyPrintDialog" /d 1 /t REG_DWORD /f

So after moving the the legacy print dialog box to get around this issue. Microsoft have now updated MS Edge it appears and loading the legacy print dialog box is now broken. It might be broken in other applications as well but for us, Edge is the main issue as it's our primary browser.

It also seems disabling, un-ticking or blocking the 'Let the app change my printer preferences' still isn't possible. Meaning we're now in the position of saying 'No printing from Edge, including any PDFs'*. Or changing back to the modern print dialog and having 101 tickets logged that the printers are now printing booklets all the time as a result of the defaults being changed by printing one PDF out.

*We have Edge as our primary PDF viewer. We do offer Foxit Reader, so I guess making that default solves the issue for PDFs. But that leaves the issue in Edge itself.

Anyone got any other solutions to this? Seems printing on Windows 11 on a network is simply broken currently. What with this and the push to V4 drivers that don't support finisher units or network printing.
