petben Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Hello, what do you do to name Intune devices in IT rooms, they dont have a 'primary user', and a naming template %serial% or something from the autopilot profile is not as useful as it could be. So, do you manually add a friendly name somewhere, or maybe leave the naming part out of the Autopilot profile (so it prompts presumably?). How about staff 1-1 laptops? I was thinking to use a 'SchoolName%serial%' autopilot template and then manually add the primary user once they are enrolled.
Roberto Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 Why not just use the %serial% type template then log serial to room in whatever hardware database you have? Much easier to move a machine in the event of a fault if you don't have to fiddle around with renaming the device in Windows/AD/EntraID too...
DWilson1997 Posted October 7, 2025 Posted October 7, 2025 (edited) We name all devices manually e.g. ABC-P-S-CR101 ABC - School Identifier Code P - Pupil Device S - Shared Device (1 for 1:1) CR1 - Room Code (Could be 6TH for Sixth Form, MUS for Music etc) 01 - Device number in that room. This allows us to split down specific rooms into dynamic groups automatically for software deployment. Edited October 7, 2025 by DWilson1997
