Since moving over to Barracuda Email Gateway Defense earlier this year, we’ve been running into intermittent deliverability problems. Some of our outbound emails are getting rejected or flagged as spam.

  • SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are all properly configured and checking out fine.

  • When we were routing mail directly through Microsoft, everything delivered without issue. Problems only started after switching outbound to Barracuda.

  • It looks like the Barracuda egress IP reputation is the likely culprit.

  • I asked Barracuda if we could be moved to another IP, but was told their system randomly rotates them and nothing can be guaranteed.

  • A recurring issue is with Birmingham City Council, where mail keeps getting bounced/filtered. Barracuda’s advice so far: contact the council’s IT team and ask them for their logs — which, realistically, isn’t going anywhere.

Has anyone else run into similar deliverability issues when routing outbound through Barracuda’s shared pools? If so, how did you resolve it — did Barracuda actually do anything useful, or did you end up moving outbound mail back to Microsoft/another service?

Any experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.
