jp2012 Posted July 18, 2025 Posted July 18, 2025 (edited) Would anyone be okay with sharing the cost of their MIS System with me? Im a student and doing a study on school IT systems and where schools keep their data. Whether in the cloud or on premises. Then the costs associated. No exactly figures will be published. I'll take an average from what I get given Im not looking for exact figures but maybe a rough estimate or range. Do not post your school or organisation name Thanks Josh Edited July 18, 2025 by jp2012 Adding extra info based on feedback
Bedders Posted July 18, 2025 Posted July 18, 2025 Most agreements contain confidentiality clauses so it's unlikely people will offer actual hard numbers. Typically such posts get a better response if you explain a bit about who you are, what your research purpose is, and what are the terms under which anything will be published (if anything)? (NB not in a school any more so I can't help anyway, sorry)

Ditto Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Not at a school currently, but based on former experience, I used to calculate a figure that was effectively annual cost per pupil per year. As it was a new school, it was growing year on year. The cost came down as we grew because I negotiated a deal that allowed for the growth and went for 3 or 5 year deals. I think I negotiated well as when we looked at competitors I could not get very near a similar deal. It was cloud based but the company no longer sells the software (probably pretty easy to work out!). Anyway, I doubt there are any confidentiality concerns here, but from vague memory, I think it was around £10 per pupil per annum reducing to £7 per pupil per annum as we grew.
Ditto Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Some schools choose to purchase their MIS through a DfE approved framework. You should be able to get lots of info there. See https://www.applytosupply.digitalmarketplace.service.gov.uk/g-cloud/choose-lot and look for each of the major providers. 2
robintech Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 What @ditto said Very rough figure would say £5 per pupil in secondary school and £5,000 a year on top of that, plus initial set up costs, training and so on. https://assets.applytosupply.digitalmarketplace.service.gov.uk/g-cloud-14/documents/92647/909733380395847-pricing-document-2024-11-21-1116.pdf
