Importing results Basedata into SIMS

Hi all,

I have seen a thread about this already but it was back in 2012 and didn't quite answer the query I have. 

I am in my first year of working in exams and of course training in this type of thing is non-existent.

 

I am wanting to import the BTEC EDI results 7B file into SIMS for this summer. I've copied and pasted the downloaded files from Pearson into Restricted Folders > EXAMS > EXAMIN where I saw the similar files being imported from before.

I thought the next step was to go to Tools > Import Results & Enrolments but it's not being picked up so I'm assuming this is the wrong way to import the files.

 

Can anyone advise on what I need to do if the steps I did above were incorrect?

The 7B file is not a result file - its a basedata file which is used to register with Pearson that you want the results for the BTEC's to be sent to you in a results file on results day. Its a weird system which goes back to the early days of BTEC and should have been updated by now but there we are. Full instructions are Here: 7B results file.

Oh I see. Then I guess I'm wondering what on earth we're supposed to do with it then once we've received it 😅
That link does say: "You will then be able to import this basedata into your MIS and create your own Results Entry 7B results request file for the learners you need results for, which you can then send to us via A2C." But where to import it I have no idea.

If its in the Examin folder then SIMS should be able to see it and you can make entries using it - you need to create an "entry" for every student you want to get a result for, and then submit this to the board via A2C. Its a trick to ensure the results are processed like the GCSE results on results day, where they will appear as an additional results download file. You do not have to do this - if you only have a few BTEC learners certificating, you can just look up the results on the exam board secure site on results day and manually add them to SIMS.

Ah! As that's the case then that's already been done. And yes, I think my option is to go directly to the Pearson portal to get the results due to our small number so that makes sense. Thank you for your help!
