dvi to s video

Stating that it wont work with any of the nvidia cards - why wont it work ?

Its probably Apples drivers, the NVIDIA cards themselves that I looked at from that list do support DVI-I which includes analogue signals. These are then redirected into the s-video plug.

 

Try one of these:

VGA Adapter: DVI 24+5 Male to HD15 Female

Plus either this:

VGA to S-Video / RCA Adaptor

Or for much better image quality this:

Projector People : Comprehensive Video High Resolution VGA to Component Cable 6 ft

 

There is no hardware reason why it should not work so long as the port on the card supports DVI-I.

was just curious as have already found the apple dvi to s video / composite cable on ebay and purchased it to try it :

 

Apple DVI to S-Video / Composite Adapter on eBay, also, Accessories, Apple Macintosh, Computing (end time 24-Aug-08 15:13:30 BST)

 

so Just wanted to see if there was any reasons as to why it should not work.

 

Will give it a go once I get it anyway.

There do not appear to be any hardware reasons for it not to work. It will be interesting to know your results. Besides I think if you publicly prove Apple wrong Mattx will buy you a beer or something

 

Which video card do you have?

I have the early 2008 mac pro with the 8800 GT ( shame they don't support more nvidia graphics card as they brought out the 280 GX and oh boy does that get an amazing ranking graphics wise in terms of gaming ( got under 30k on 3d mark ) in comparison to my measley 14400 lol.

 

Ah well it plays the games I play flawlessly so im happy

 

Just sucks they took the s video port off of the nvidia 8800 GT ( dont understand that ) as all other 8800 Nvidias for pcs have an s video out port.

If you wanted gaming scores and fps and the ability to buy the latest and greatest (for two months at least) graphics cards for the latest and greatest games, you would have been better off buying an Alienware system

Not sure about the DVI converter though- I thought it didn't work but I'm not sure why.
