Weird errors lately on "unread content" button

been getting this every now and again when clicking the unread content button in the top right - but th rest of the site seems to work fine and if you try once or twice it works.  Almost like some kind of database timeout?

Its to do with the search engine, we are getting a rather huge amount of bots hitting it.

A bit of a badass rule has been rolled out, we will see how this affects it.
