mullet_man Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is having trouble with autosave being broke in your environments? If you open a file that is saved in your OneDrive or synced SharePoint location via File Explorer, the file will open in M365 apps but with Autosave not on? If you open same file via the M365 app, choose OneDrive and then open it will have autosave enabled. It only seems to have happened this week. I've opened a call with MS and they are investigating but not sure how far it will get. Just wanted to reach out and see if others have same problem? Cheers.
psydii Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 I've seen a couple of devices today exhibiting that behaviour.
mullet_man Posted June 3, 2025 Author Posted June 3, 2025 Thanks for confirming. It's strange as I've got exactly the same versions of apps on my PC in my office as a laptop but the PC is working OK but the laptop isn't. We've had 3 teachers report it today so it's working it's way around the school. A Reddit post I saw suggests it's the OneDrive app and if you roll that back to an earlier version it works, I tried that but as soon as you install the older app it updates on install so I gave up.
mavhc Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 It's extra weird because MSOffice doesn't actually load MSOffice files from the local file system anyway, it always loads them directly from the online copy. You can tell by renaming a Office file, and then trying to open it before the rename has synced.

tdk1069 Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 Have a ticket raised today to say the same, so having the same Autosave issue going on here aswell.
mullet_man Posted June 5, 2025 Author Posted June 5, 2025 Microsoft have now posted this as an issue, and are working on a fix. It seems it’s a OneDrive client issue, so a new update should auto roll out to your devices.
Buzzer90 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Had this on a few devices the other day, after updating & then rolling back Office amongst other things to no avail it was just an uninstall & re install of Onedrive that got it working again. Was a fun few hours...
mullet_man Posted June 8, 2025 Author Posted June 8, 2025 Hopefully MS release the fix this new week. Everything I tried didn't sort it, tried reinstalling office, reinstalling OD. When I tried to downgrade OneDrive it just auto updated to the broken version so I gave up and logged a call with MS.

mullet_man Posted June 10, 2025 Author Posted June 10, 2025 Looks like MS are rolling out the fix now, so it should start hitting devices soon enough. 1
