Hi there

I want to enable Search Engine Friendly URLS on my Joomla site, to do this i must rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess. When i try to do this in windows explorer i get this error message:

You must type a file name.

How do i rename it?

Thanks

What version of windows are you using? Apparently 2000+ can support filenames with nothing before the period.

If you use Windows 2000 or above, then move on to step 4

(because you can create files like “.htaccess” on your system which

do not have anything before the dot in the filename. If not, then

change this line to the following:

AccessFileName ht.acl .htaccess

Windows, Apache and .htaccessauthentication | Sniptools |

Or you could call .htaccess something else like the above.

Try using a dos box to rename the file than exploder.

Thanks for the suggestions, the server is running server 2003 currently.

the idea that HodgeHi said seems easiest. I ill e-mail myself the file rename and e-mail back.

@HodgeHi I will also rub in that i am getting a macbook for work ;)

Cheers

Reading through the link seems to suggest that creating the file through NOTEPAD works. Just open notepad, create the file and then choose all file types and then save as .htaccess. You can't create the file directly in explorer or you will get the error.

Hope this helps more.
